A familiar place, with extra support
Our care rooms are designed for people who need a higher level of care, but still want the warmth of familiar faces who know them by name, not file number. Each of our 25 rooms has its own ensuite and space for personal belongings, with a weekly fee that covers all services.
While many of our care room residents have lived in other parts of Elmswood, others have come directly from their own homes. Whether you're joining us for the first time, or moving into our rooms from our apartments or villas, you'll feel right at home.

Round-the-clock care
With 24-hour registered nursing on site, Elmswood provides both respite and hospital care to our Christchurch residents. Each of our 25 rooms is staffed around the clock, so someone is always on hand to keep an eye on your loved ones.
Our team includes experienced nurses and caregivers who know each resident personally, supported by visiting GPs and allied health professionals.
There’s no capital purchase or long-term commitment, just weekly service fees, and we can guide you with Health NZ assessments for those accessing funded care.

We prepare nutritious, fresh meals daily, with all dietary needs catered for.
Visiting doctors and specialists
We have regular weekly GP and allied health visits, including physio and podiatry.
Daily housekeeping and laundry
Rooms are refreshed daily for the comfort and wellbeing of our residents.
Shared lounge and dining areas
We offer warm, welcoming shared spaces to relax, socialise, and enjoy quiet company.
Family welcome at any time
Loved ones are encouraged to visit, share meals, and stay involved in daily life.
No capital purchase required
Simple weekly service fees, with Health NZ funding support where eligible.
Hospital care with transparent costs
In addition to the daily care fee, our premium care room charge starts from $75.00 per day, with no room purchase or large upfront fee required. While pricing varies based on room selection, we endeavour to keep our costs as transparent as possible, with all expenses outlined in our admission agreement.
To live in our care rooms, you need to first have been "needs assessed" through the Need Assessment and Service Co-ordination agency (NASC). Subsidies are available for eligible residents.

We know that having a loved one in hospital can be a difficult and stressful time, so we do all we can to make families feel welcome and comfortable during their visits to Elmswood. Our beautiful communal spaces are available for everyone in the hospital and their families to use.

The hospital level care Mum has received over the past few months has been amazing.
