One and two-bedroom retirement villas
If you like your own space but value the comfort of having help nearby, a villa could be the right fit. Each home has its own outlook and garden, with maintenance and security taken care of so you can spend your time how you choose. You can join activities, visit the community centre, or simply enjoy your home and the people around you, with the reassurance of staff close by, day and night.
Assisted-living apartments
If cooking and cleaning are taking more effort than they used to, serviced apartments let us take care of the boring bits and leave you in control of the rest. Your private apartment remains your own, but with daily meals, housekeeping, and laundry handled for you. Nursing and care support can be added as needed, so life stays simple even if your health gets complicated. We call it 'assisted living' - all the parts you enjoy, and none of the tasks you don't.
For those who need a little extra support, we also offer rest home and hospital care, so you and your loved ones can relax knowing we're here to help, no matter what life brings.
Fully supported care rooms
When care needs become more complex, our Care Rooms offer round-the-clock nursing in a small, personal setting. With only 25 suites, staff and residents know each other well, creating a familiar rhythm and a strong sense of trust. Every room has an ensuite and space for personal touches, so it still feels like home. There’s no initial purchase needed, just weekly fees, and our team works with Health NZ assessments for those receiving funded care.
Our care rooms offer hospital, respite, palliative and end of life care options.

We're not a standard Christchurch retirement village, we're a community to call home.
Elmswood residents are proud of where they live and aren't shy about sharing it with friends and family. As a result, many friends and couples choose to join the community, and in many cases, they have lived in the Fendalton/Bryndwr/Merivale area for most of their lives.

We are so pleased with our choice of retirement village. Important to us long term, was that Elmswood offers levels of care from independent living to hospital level all set amongst neatly kept colourful gardens. We all watch out for each other here and help where we can with the many excellent village activities. It is entirely up to each resident which activity they participate in. The staff from top down is second to none - exceptional in fact - remembering each resident by name. This truly is a village in every sense of the word.
