Individuals and couples happily live here – making new friends, enjoying the company of staff and joining in village life. Fish and chip nights when the All Blacks are playing; outings; regular celebrations; and going for drives together all help to make people feel at home in their own community.
At the heart of our unique culture is our very warm and friendly owner/manager who is personally committed to a modern, high quality environment and keeping up with the latest advancements in aged care. She says, “It is an enormous privilege to provide care, security and a good lifestyle for people as they age.” The rest of the Elmswood team pride themselves on their teamwork and the way they care for each other, the residents, and residents’ families. “It’s all part of being in the Elmswood family. And when people come to Elmswood, they and their family become part of us too.”
At Elmswood, we know that many people live full and active lives well into their 80s and 90s. Others prefer a more relaxed way of life, making the most of our facilities, from the quiet reading areas and hairdresser to the swimming pool and organised group activities.
We also offer a continuum of care, from the independence of our villas and serviced apartments/studios, to clinical care in our rest home and hospital. Our residents say that not having to worry about shifting, if they need extra care brings them great peace of mind.
We know our villa residents enjoy leaving behind house and garden maintenance to focus on enjoying their retirement. And our apartment/studio residents often take a new lease on life, when they shift to Elmswood and are surrounded by more people and activity. They say, “You don’t have to worry about most of the mundane things in life here.”
Our rest home is our heart – the hub of the Village. Along with the rest home residents, people from the villas, apartments/studios, and hospital come here to post letters, buy milk, visit the hairdresser, make use of other services and receive assistance with the little things. There is constant activity and interaction here between staff, residents and families.
Our focus is on providing a positive, fulfilling experience of aging in a home where people care for and nurture each other. At Elmswood, there is light and laughter, amidst the highest standards of integrity and care. A Registered Nurse is at the Village 24 hours a day and we have the support of a multi disciplinary team of doctors and other health professionals.
At Elmswood Village, residents are regularly involved in big and small decisions about their wellbeing. We are always keen for feedback from anyone.
Elmswood residents are also proud of where they live and often tell their friends how good it is here. As a result, friends, brothers, sisters, and plenty of couples live here, many of whom have lived in the Fendalton/Bryndwr/Merivale area for most of their lives. Others select the location because we are 15 minutes from just about anywhere in Christchurch, making it easy for family members to visit on a regular basis.
If you haven’t visited Elmswood, we’re sure you’ll know us from our great reputation. Or seeing us as you travel down Wairakei Road. We’d love to talk to you, so give us a call or pop in the next time you’re passing.
